In addition to above, if you feel you need more LED Treatments between Day 3 and Week 4, we will offer you 50% LED treatments during this time. LED is designed to speed up the healing process and minimise skin sensitivity, although this is a normal part of the Cosmelan process and we guide you through the skin recovery phase, some clients enjoy visiting us for additional LED.

In our experience, clients have had to replace the nourishing face cream approximately 2 months after their Cosmelan treatment (cost $150), as for ongoing treatments, we recommended continuing regular skin treatments in the months after, these can be discussed with your therapist.

The Cosmelan Journey

1. Intense Depigmentation
Application in the clinic with removal at home 8 to 12 hours later, depending on your skin type and treatment goals.

2. Continuous Depigmentation
We see you 3 days later for an in clinic treatment and application of the ongoing home Cosmelan specialty product. We teach you how to incorporate this solution as part of your daily routine and this will continue the depigmentation process.

3. Control Of Hyperpigmentation
We see you one month later for a nourishing facial and LED, we can check in with our skins progress and ensure everything is on track. (Appointment covered in initial treatment cost).

Months 2 and 3: At this point, it is important to treat the root cause of the blemish by regulating overproduction of melanin through constant regulation of the melanocyte. This is done with your ongoing use of the Cosmelan specialty home care products which prevent repigmentation. Your skin at the point feels brighter, clearer and some mild sensitivity can still be present as you are still using a high strength Vitamin A solution.

4. Controlling Reappearance
The tendency to develop dark spots represents an ongoing risk. The Cosmelan treatment prevents the reappearance of the treated spots and the formation of new ones, for a longer-lasting result. However, it requires your commitment to ongoing SPF protection as part of your lifestyle.

Does it hurt?

The application of the Cosmelan solution is pain-free, it has a slow delivery into the skin and discomfort begins the next day. Generally, Days 1-4 you are quite hot, itchy, dry and the skin will flake. Day 5-10 the redness may begin to subside, the skin is usually dry and flaking. Day 10-30, the redness has subsided and the skin may still be flaking slightly. After Day 30, we enter the controlling pigmentation phase of your journey.

What types of hyperpigmentation does Cosmelan treat? 

Cosmelan can treat Melasma, Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation, Sun Spots and Freckles. It can be done on any skin type, provided the skin is well prepared and has healthy barrier function.

When will I see results?

Once the initial discomfort / tenderness subsides, you will feel brighter and see the pigment clearing approximately 2 weeks after treatment. The results continue to improve over the next 3 to 6 months.

Are there other options that are less intense?

Yes. We can do a progressive Cosmelan treatment with the at home care cream, this has less downtime and works on brightening pigment over time.
