0Chemical peels are a treatment used to resurface the skin and promote the regeneration of skin cells. The peel will help shed the top layers of the skin to improve the overall appearance of the skin, stimulate collagen production, improve pigmentation, sun damage, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, redness and some superficial peels are used in the management of Rosacea.
There are many types of chemical peels to treat various types of skin concerns and conditions. Chemical peels are classified by their depth of penetration into superficial, medium and deep, depending on your concern and our goal we will use the appropriate solution. We can also combine peels with other modalities, such as Laser Genesis, to enhance the treatment outcome.
PRE-TREATMENT CARE
What should I book in for (first time peel-er)?!
You can comfortably book in for a superficial skin peel (includes LED and mask) and your therapist will adjust the treatment on the day based on your presenting concerns. We recommend advising our admin team at the time of booking that its your first visit and adding a consultation if you would like to discuss your concerns in depth.
What can I expect?
A consultation will occur for new clients, or existing clients will have a conversation regarding their present concerns, how their skin has been between appointments and any changes we need to know about. Your peel procedure takes between 2-10 minutes depending on the solution applied, minimal discomfort can occur (heat / prickly sensation). This will be followed with extractions if needed, LED light rejuvenation for 15-20minutes, a soothing mask and moisturiser / SPF.
Do chemical peels hurt?
Most clients tolerate chemical peels without discomfort. Some solutions cause you to experience a warm to hot sensation and/or tingling, but these sensations subside. Stronger treatments (Milk, Crystal, Mela-Forte and TCA) do have some discomfort but you would discuss these prior to our first experience.
Are chemical peels safe?
Yes! Chemical peels are a fantastic way to rejuvenate your skin, safely! We would never treat a compromised or impaired skin, even with a superficial peel, as the health of your skin is our top priority. Most skins are absolutely suitable for a superficial peel (pregnancy and breastfeeding safe options available) to start with. Other, more intense solutions that purposely encourage skin shedding and rejuvenation will require preparation with at home prescriptives as well as appropriate after care procedures to be followed.
AFTER TREATMENT CARE
Your therapist will provide you with an after care sheet after your appointment. As each peel can vary with its aftercare, we will customise the instructions to your particular needs. As a general rule, it is best to avoid the following after any peel treatments:
You must wear SPF daily before and after your treatments!
Peels are a fantastic way to target your concerns and provide results with minimal discomfort and downtime. All superficial skin peel treatments include LED, treatment mask and moisturiser.
These solutions target multiple concerns, have minimal downtime, the length of time we expose your skin to the solution and the amount of layers will influence this and your therapist will discuss these factors with you on the day of treatment.
In this range, we use either:
Lactic 30% or 40%
Salicylic 10% or 20%
Mandelic 30% 0r 40%
If you require significant extractions, we encourage you to add on 20mins of extractions ($40)
A powerful blend of Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid and Bentonite Clay. This treatment is suitable for Acne, congestion or breakout prone skin. You must be prepared on some type of AHA or retinol beforehand, stop using these ingredient 3 days prior to your appointments.
Includes extractions, LED, treatment mask and moisturiser.
Downtime? 1-3 days of dryness and potential redness if significant extractions were performed.
A medical-grade peel used to target signs of ageing, pigmentation and stubborn Acne lesions.
This solution is a blend of Glycolic, Lactic and Salicylic Acid. Not suitable for first time clients, please start with a superficial skin peel and allow our team to determine if this peel is right for you.
Downtime? 2-5 days of dryness and possible shedding may occur, this is not common in all cases but depending on how we perform the treatment (based on your concern and what we are wanting to achieve), its best to avoid the week of any social engagement. Make-up can be work after 24hours.
Intended for the treatment of sun damage, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, mild acne and hyperkeratosis (excessive skin build up or blockages).
This solution is a blend of Salicylic, Mandelic and Citric Acids.
Best performed in a course of 3 treatments, 3-4 weeks apart. You are likely to experience mild discomfort and mild shedding of the skin for 3-5 days after your treatment. A smooth, refined texture and complexion will follow.
This peel is used to safely target pigmentation, including Melasma. It is designed as a safe and effective peel option for darker skin tones, especially those with post-inflammatory pigmentation which can be very difficult to treat.
It has a stronger formula or high concentrated actives for optimal efficiency. This peel is best done in a course of 3 (sometimes up to 5 treatments depending on the severity of pigmentation concerns). We perform this treatment at 4 week intervals.
Use of the Dermaceutic Mela Cream is required beforehand (retinol with additional skin brightening agents) and appropriate post treatment care is necessary to maintain your skins integrity.
Trichloroacetic acid (TCA for short) is a type of chemical peel with a great safety profile. TCA skin peel solutions have various strengths, we decide the solution and the number of layers applied to your skin based on your concerns and the aesthetic result we are seeking to achieve.
The treatment takes approximately 30-40 minutes, of which approximately 10-15minutes is the peel application itself. The solution is ‘neutralised’ before you depart the clinic, although you are to avoid water on your skin or cleansing for 8-10hours after the application. Your skin will appear with a white / pink colouring (in some cases mild ‘frosting’ is our endpoint), and you will most likely prefer to stay indoors for the remainder of the day. Pictured is a strong endpoint, see below for results.
Depending on the strength used, you will notice some redness, sensitivity and dryness for days 1-2 after the application. Pigmentation will darken initially, followed by a shedding of the skin which can last 5-7 days before revealing a youthful, bright glow!
Before and After 1x Superficial peel, home care and 1 x TCA peel.
